Volunteer

Do you have 3 hours per week to spare? Interested in becoming a library volunteer? Simply call in and collect an application form from the link below then drop/post your completed form to the library or email it to us at fawdoncommunitylibrary@gmail.com. Read on for further information or pop in to the library and have a chat with one of our volunteers.

Where is the library? Fawdon Community Library is located within Fawdon Community Centre, just 2 minutes walk from Fawdon Metro station. There is parking outside the centre, and the area is well served by Metro (Fawdon metro station is just 2 minutes walk away), or by bus (Service 30), so access is easy.

How much time will I be expected to commit? Fawdon Community Library is wholly run by a team of volunteers, who commit to working 3-4 hours per week, to cover a staffing rota at the library, and help in other ways too. Each shift is manned by a minimum of 2 volunteers. You may also be called upon to provide cover for holidays or sickness, subject to your availability.

What services might I be assisting with? Our volunteer librarians perform a number of duties including:

  • books issued and returned
  • updating computer records
  • scanning, printing and photocopying
  • assisting computer users
  • participating in fundraising/promotional events
  • filing returned books.

What skills are needed? Previous experience of any of the above is helpful, but not essential as training and support will be provided. A friendly and helpful disposition is important and you must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Are expenses payable? The library does not provide expenses for volunteering.

Still interested? We look forward to hearing from you!
