Fawdon Community Library

Fawdon Community Library has been wholly run by volunteers since 2015. We are located within Fawdon Community Centre, just 2 minutes walk from Fawdon Metro station. The centre also has a regular bus service (30) and has parking available, including disabled bays.

Opening Hours

  • MONDAYS: 10 a.m – 5 p.m (Closed for lunch 1-2 p.m)
  • NOTE: Knit & Natter group meets in the library on Monday afternoons from 2-4 pm
  • WEDNESDAYS: 10 a.m – 1 p.m
  • THURSDAYS: 2p.m. – 5 p.m
  • CHRISTMAS CLOSURE 2025 We close at 5 p.m. on Thursday 18th December and reopen at 10 a.m. on Monday 5th January

BOOK LOANS – take books out for four weeks free.

REFRESHMENTS available – sit a while in a comfy seat and enjoy tea or coffee & biscuits for 50p. Just ask!

COMPUTER ROOM FACILITIES with free access (City library membership card required).
BASIC COMPUTER TRAINING SESSIONS for beginners (FREE) – just ask for details.

JIGSAW CORNER – A selection of jigsaws are available to members to borrow.

PRINTING, PHOTOCOPYING, LAMINATING:

  • Printing A4 Black/White – 20p
  • Printing A4 Colour – 25p
  • Laminating – 50p per item (A4 & business cards)

BOOKS TO YOUR DOORSTEP – our home delivery service for those members of our community who are elderly or infirm, and unable to visit the library. Interested? Call us on 0191 2843254

Our Groups and Activities

  • FAMILY HISTORY GROUP – meets monthly in the library on the last Tuesday of each month (2-3.30 p.m). Explore you family’s past with free access to genealogy software; share hints and tips to help one another.
  • WATERCOLOURS FOR BEGINNERS – Join Ed and the group on the first Tuesday of each month from 2-4 p.m.
  • READING GROUP – Our monthly Book Club enables interested members of our community, who enjoy reading, to explore different books, and meet each month (on the 3rd Wednesday) to compare and discuss the content, over a cuppa in the warmth of the library. Sessions are currently fully subscribed, but we will add you to our waiting list if you are interested.
  • STORY & ACTIVITY TIME FOR YOUNGSTERS – Join Ann & Moira at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays during school holidays for story time, followed by story related crafts. Aimed for ages 6 and under. Must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • LOCAL HISTORY PRESENTATIONS – Look out for the latest in our series of online local history presentations!

    Our library was thrilled to provide a community venue for tablet training, provided by Digital Inclusion Programme Coordinator Lisa King and her team at Your Homes Newcastle. Learners who completed the 8 weekly sessions were presented with certificates and their new tablets, enabling them to continue their learning journey. Thank you to everyone involved.
